Woodcraft × Technology: Creative Resonance | VTC Design Alumni Association Workshop Successfully Held

The VTC Design Alumni Association (VTCDAA), in collaboration with the renowned local studio "Start From Zero", successfully hosted the Handcrafted Wooden Bluetooth Speaker Workshop at the AIRSIDE store in Kai Tak on 30 August 2025. The event offered  alumni a unique opportunity to experience the creative fusion of woodcraft and technology.   

Guided by the Start from Zero team—renowned for over 20 years of street art and wood working expertise—participants needed no prior experience. Alumni personally sanded, oiled, and assembled their own solid wood Bluetooth speakers, blending street aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship. Each finished piece not only embodied artistic spirit but also delivered warm, natural sound through its solid wood construction, showcasing the harmony of technology and artistry. 

The activity also encouraged alumni to connect and expand their network, while gaining deeper insights into the philosophy and operations of a local art studio. One alumnus shared that the process of handcrafting a functional artwork was immensely fulfilling, and it was especially rewarding to reconnect and interact with fellow alumni. 

This workshop showcased VTCDAA’s ongoing commitment in fostering creative practice and industry exchange. Looking ahead, more collaborative events will be organised to unite the design community and inspire further innovation.
