VTC Alumni Network Luncheon Explores New Directions for Vocational and Professional Education in the AI Era

The Alumni Relations Office hosted an Alumni Network Luncheon on Wednesday, 30 July 2025 at the Chinese Culinary Institute Training Restaurant, themed “AI Breaking Boundaries: Innovations for the Future”. The event brought together over 60 distinguished guests, including VTC Alumni Advocates, representatives from IVE, HKDI, HKIIT, THEi, and the Institutional Advancement Office.
The luncheon featured a keynote speech by Dr John Hui, Principal of the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT), who delivered an in-depth analysis of AI’s impact on the global economy and workforce productivity. Dr. Hui emphasised the growing necessity for professionals to upskill in AI competencies, the rising demand for IT talent amid digital transformation, and innovative applications of AI in education. He also took the opportunity to highlight HKIIT’s latest advancements, including recognition of HKIIT programmes by the Digital Policy Office and the Qualifications Framework (QF); inclusion of continuing education courses under the "Creative Professionals Tuition Subsidy Scheme", eligibility for the Continuing Education Fund (CEF), and alignment with the New Industrialisation and Technology Training Programme (NITTP). These developments mark significant strides in reshaping vocational and professional education for the future.
During the luncheon, VTC representatives and Alumni Advocates engaged in dynamic discussions, exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration and exchanging insights on enhancing vocational education quality and driving industry innovation. Alumni Advocates also shared practical industry perspectives, offering strategic recommendations to support the development of VTC, reflecting their enduring commitment to their alma mater.
The event not only strengthened ties between alumni and VTC but also injected fresh perspectives into vocational education in the AI era. Moving forward, VTC will continue to collaborate with its alumni network, leveraging technological advancements to nurture a new generation of innovative professionals and contribute to socioeconomic development.
