Funded by Alistair Harvey Foundation and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, academically bright and talented VTC students were awarded scholarships to pursue further education in the United Kingdom. Studying aboard is not only an academic experience, but also a comprehensive cultural journey. To ensure that the alumni can immerse themselves in local life and culture, VTC arranged a three-day homestay event for the scholarship awardees Cecilia, Samuel, and Daphne to visit Ms Agnes Ng, the VTC Alumni Ambassador living in Meopham. The event was successfully held from 20 to 22 March 2024, allowing the alumni to visit historical landmarks and picturesque countryside in the UK while experiencing authentic culture and cuisine.
In the gracious company of Ms Ng, the alumni were guided to a Grade I listed ancient church dating back to the 14th century, imbued with a rich historical atmosphere. They also explored the medieval town of Rochester, admiring the magnificent Rochester Cathedral, renowned for its unique architecture. Keen to take in the breathtaking views, the alumni even challenged the 200-step spiral staircase, ascending to the top of the castle. Accompanied by Ms Ng’s hiking friend Peter, they embarked on a journey to Luddesdowne, where they marveled at the vast vineyards and picturesque landscapes along the way. Additionally, Ms Ng and the alumni visited two local couples, exploring their homes and gardens while engaging in English conversations and participating in a French workshop.
The alumni relished this enriching cultural journey, gaining profound insights into British culture and way of life from various perspectives. They expressed their sincere gratitude to VTC for the arrangement and a special thanks to the Alumni Ambassador for her warm hospitality.
