Candidates sitting for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) not only have to adapt to the different circumstances of life and study, but also have to cope with the pressure coming from the release of the results under the recurring epidemic. If parents and their family members can maintain positive communications with the candidates and plan their progression pathways together, it will help them make the most suitable choices. This year, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) continues to join hands with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to co-host a two-talk Parents’ Programme that will apprise parents of the diverse progression pathways available and support them in helping their children handle the challenge of the DSE results release.
The first talk themed “Resist Pressure Positively” will be a live broadcast on 28 May (Saturday). During the epidemic, the learning environment has been switched to online mode. It reduces opportunities for having face-to-face interactions for young people, which may hinder in–person social interaction. From the perspective of adolescent mental health, guest speaker Dr TANG Man-ho will illustrate positive family communication skills and ways of resisting pressure, to help parents gain insight into their children’s mental and emotional conditions.
Meanwhile, the second talk, titled “DSE Parents’ Tips”, is scheduled for 18 June (Saturday) and parents can either log in from home or attend the physical event. The guest speaker, Joseph TSANG Chi-to, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, will explain the latest study information and analyse related figures, and share his rich experience as a careers expert to support parents in helping their children chart a preferred future pathway. In addition, Hong Kong middle-long distance runner and running coach CHAN Ka-ho and CHENG Chun-hin, graduate of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) and former dragon boat athlete and medalist in the IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships, will explain how they plan their own pathways.
The Parents’ Programme 2022 is free of charge. Parents and other interested parties are welcome to register online at www.vtc.edu.hk/ero/talk or call 2836 1888 for enquiries.
