The traditional belief "Reward lies ahead of diligence, but nothing is gained by playing " no longer be true, according to HKDI alumnus Cyril Lee. Value added board games – “serious games” are not only for enjoyment, but serves as a good tool for self-reflection and to improve one’s behavior. "Playing game" actually brings positive impact.
After graduation, Cyril initially worked as an engineer but discovered his interest in the creative industry. He decided to change his profession and studied product design at HKDI. During his studies, he participated in co-creation workshop focused on elderly health, which greatly inspired him that design should have a higher value. Subsequently, he founded Blackbody Lab, using a lighthearted approach to explore various social issues through game products and workshops. Players develop critical thinking through actively experimenting and changing their behavior based on the feedback. Balancing educational messages with fun, subjective consciousness with objective facts are significant challenges for Cyril when designing the games.
Cyril has always aimed to create value and firmly believes that good work leads him to more opportunities. He advises VTC fellow students not to limit themselves, but to acquire a broad knowledge base and add value to their work in order to forge new paths.
