Annual New Scholars Welcome Gathering went “Virtual”
Published Date : 2020-09-10
Difficult times remind us the importance of alumni community when studying aboard. Therefore, despite the COVID-19 global pandemic, VTC switched the planned New Scholars Welcome Gathering to online. A total of 20 academically bright and talented scholarship awardees of Alistair Harvey Foundation Scholarship and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships attended the first-ever Online New Scholars Welcome Gathering on 14 August 2020 before departing for the UK to take on further education.
Apart from new scholarship awardees, fellow previous scholars; Ms Agnes Ng, the VTC Alumni Ambassador in the UK; and VTC staff representatives from Headquarters (Academic Services) and Alumni Relations also joined the virtual celebration. During the event, Agnes, residing in the UK, introduced to participants the alumni engagement programme in the UK and an array of cultural and social experience enriching activities. She also bought us the latest social distancing policy and information in the UK, so that scholars can better protect themselves against the epidemic. Mr Tony Wong, Internal Vice Chairman of the Alistair Harvey Foundation Scholarship Alumni Association, introduced to them the Association, its past and future activities, and the liaison alumnus in the UK for immediate assistance if necessary. He encouraged scholars to take part in the scholar network in Hong Kong, giving support to each other and their younger fellows. During the break-out sessions, alumni also provided useful tips for new scholars to prepare themselves in embarking new study life in the UK. Scholars were urged to seize the life-changing opportunities to thrive while enjoying their study and see the world.
Congratulations to all new scholars! We wish them every success in their studies, and appeal for their support to the giving culture to VTC for a better world.
